Question 2.
When a powered vehicle with a mass of 4 tonne climbs a road with a gradient of 1 in 7 at a constant speed of 55kmh-1 the power consumption is 89kW. The total resistive force is constant and independent of speed and gradient.
Using energy methods, calculate the following:
A)
The freewheeling distance to rest up the gradient after the power is cut off.
B)
The freewheeling distance to rest on a level stretch of the same road after cut off at 55kmh
C)
The total distance of freewheeling to rest, back down the slope from the stopped position in (a), assuming that after travelling the distance found in (a) the vehicle freewheels back down the slope to find the foot of the gradient and thence along the level road.
D)
the deceleration whilst travelling up the slope with the power off
